Why Bazaar?!

The company is named after the title of a book that has been a huge influence on the Open Source movement, but we didn't want to call it Cathedral systems as it doesn't have quite the same ring to it...

The Book

One of the most influential books to have come out of the Open Source Movement is called “The Cathedral and the Bazaar” written by Eric Raymond.

Essentially it compares two models for producing software: the Cathedral model, represented by large homogeneous organisations like Microsoft; and the Bazaar model, used by the Open Source movement.

It is published by O'Reilly under ISBN number: 0596001088
